'Suicide Squad': Jared Leto Calls Role Of Joker A 'Shakespearean Character'
Jared Leto will be playing the role of Joker in “Suicide Squad.” The actor is reportedly thrilled to step into the shoes of iconic Batman villain. He recently spoke to Billboard magazine about his role and what made him take the challenge to play Joker in David Ayer’s film.
“The opportunity to take on this nearly Shakespearean character -- that's what graphic novels and comic books are becoming, right? [He's] this beautiful disaster of a character -- what a big challenge,” he said to the magazine. The actor also said that he is gaining weight for the role. He is reportedly trying to eat every few hours in order to look bulky.
Leto, who won an Oscar for his path-breaking performance in the “Dallas Buyer’s Club,” will be recreating the famous comic-book character alongside actors like Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Jesse Eisenberg and others. In “Suicide Squad” he will join the task force with other supervillains to fulfill a dangerous task in return of a shorter prison time. The film is scheduled to be released on Aug 5, 2016 and has been written by Ayer.
According to comicbooks, Joker is a criminal mastermind. He is a psychopath and has a nasty sense of humour. Jerry Robinson, Bill Finger, and Bob Kane have created the character. He was introduced in Batman#1. He is reportedly considered the arch-nemesis of Batman. The character has been played by Late actor Heath Ledger in “Dark Knight” and by Jack Nicholson in 1989's “Batman.” Ledger was highly praised for his role of Joker in “Dark Knight” and he had also received a posthumous Academy Award for best-supporting actor. Leto’s upcoming performance as Joker in “Suicide Squad” could be be compared to Ledger and Nicholson, according to Screen Rant.
Meanwhile, Will Smith who plays Deadshot in “Suicide Squad” also spoke about his role at the recent press tour for his film “Focus.” The actor is reportedly excited to play the and said that his in film “Suicide Squad” he will create “global definition of Deadshot," according to MTV.
