'Suicide Squad': Margot Robbie Hints Harley Quinn's Accent Will Not Be 'As Strong As Her Wolf of Wall Street's Accent'
“The Wolf of Wall Street” star Margot Robbie is all set to play Harley Quinn in “Suicide Squad.” The actress recently spilled beans about her character’s accent at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. She hinted that Harley Quinn’s accent will not be as thick as that of her character Naomi Lapaglia in “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
“According to the comics, she’s from New York and I think Brooklyn, so there may be a slight… I couldn’t imagine it would be as strong as the ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ accent. The lingo will be the difference between that and the other character I played in ‘Wolf’ but I don’t know yet,” said Robbie to Superhero Hype.
The actress also said that the specifics of her character’s accent are yet to be discussed. In “The Wolf of Wall Street”, Robbie had a thick American accent. She reportedly undertook dialogue coaching to get the voice of her character right, according to Telegraph. It is expected that she may undergo a similar kind of training for her role of Harley Quinn.
Quinn is a supervillain and a partner and girlfriend of Batman's nemesis the Joker. She is also a close friend of Poison Ivy from whom she gained immunity to poisons and toxins. Paul Dini and Bruce Timm have created the character. Quinn was shown possessing a heavy Brooklyn accent in the television series “Birds of Prey” where she was played actress Mia Sara.
Meanwhile, David Ayer is directing Suicide Squad. The “all-star comic book movie” will follow the story of imprisoned super-villains who will perform a risky black ops mission in exchange for mercy. Apart from Margaret Robbie other actors who will be seen in vital roles include Will Smith as Batman villain Deadshot, Jared Leto as Joker, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. Jesse Eisenberg and Viola Davis are also considered for meaty roles. Eisenberg is in discussions to make a reappearance as Lex Luthor, while Davis may play Amanda Waller. “Suicide Squad" is slated to be released on Aug 5, 2016.
