Anittel Limited (ASX: AYG), a Sydney-based IT and telecom solutions and service provider, topped the Deloitte 2011 Technology Fast 50 Australian list released on Friday.

The firm, which offers voice, data, mobility, PBX and IT services, came on top after it registered a 1,022.22 per cent growth over three years. Anittel jumped from seventh place in 2010 to number one.

Deloitte makes the annual ranking as part of its Technology Fast 500 global program that aims to make the firms part of an exclusive network of high performing tech companies. The consulting firm provides support to these companies through fora, events, newsletters and seminars.

Half of the top 50 companies are located in New South Wales (NSW), 19 in Victoria, three in Queensland, two in South Australia and one in Western Australia. Only six of the companies, including the number one ranked Anittel, are listed in the Australian Securities Exchange.

Next to Anittel was another NSW firm, Observatory Crest. It is a computer peripherals company which registered an 869.93 per cent growth. It was followed by online insurance marketplace provider BizCover (792.03 per cent), online surf and fashion retailer SurfStitch (573.66 per cent), and Vocus Communications (505.79 per cent).

Vocus was number one in 2010 when it registered an 11,306 per cent growth. It is one of 23 companies on the top 50 list that belongs to the Internet sector.

Internet firms were followed by communications/networking sector (12 companies) and by software companies (11 firms).

The top 50 companies had total revenues of $2.2 billion, up from $1.8 billion in 2010.
