On-Time iPhone 6S Release Date as Apple Will Reportedly Start Early Mass Production on Q2 2015
Even as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus remain the bestsellers that they are since late 2014, Apple appears to be already forward-looking and expecting the sequels – said to be called the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus on release date – to become even bigger. So production of the next iPhone is set to start early, a new report said.
Such is the case for some of the key components to be used with the device, according to G4Games that pointed to the latest words coming from supply chain sources in China. It looked like that manufacturing the 2015 iPhones is characterised as twice as massive as last year so Apple is not leaving a single detail to chance – best to start in advance to ensure that supplies come distribution will meet the expected heavy demands.
Early production start
First to enter volume production phase are the hardware components for the iPhone 6S, which the report said will begin in the second quarter of 2015, mostly in the latter months considering the earlier reports that actual assembly of the device is scheduled June this year. The move is the best insurance that sufficient number of units will be ship out as planned.
One company that likely will be at the centre of these activities is Samsung as it is widely touted to play a major role in building up the next iPhone. G4Games suggested that one component to hit the production line early is DRAM chips, the need for which in the iPhone 6S is expected to double this year.
It should be recalled that Samsung had recently unveiled its LPDDR4 RAM technology that debuted commercially with the Galaxy S6 and is believed lined up for the 6S and 6S Plus though in limited in 2GB configuration. Other device vendors are likely to take advantage of the LPDDR4 availability, thus making sense of Apple’s decision to push its suppliers for an early production start.
Then there is the A9 chip for the 2015 iOS devices that Samsung will again reportedly supply using the more powerful, faster and better efficient 14-nanometre process. Testing phase of the application processor is said to have already commenced in December 2014 and all indications pointed to full production swing anytime in the current period.
Glitch-free production and rollout
The end-goal really is smooth manufacturing of the next iPhone and its iOS device cousins, leading to on time launch plus the assurance that enough supplies will hit the market. Given that the iPhone 6S release date is set between September and October 2015, then Apple has sufficient time on its hands to make this happen smoothly.
