Titanfall to invade iOS and Android mobiles in 2016; free online version also due
It will take Titanfall’s gameplay in a new direction
Titanfall, the most successful sci-fi, first-person mech shooter yet, will make its way to iOS and Android smartphones and other devices in 2016.
The invasion of mobiles by a game that became madly famous as an exclusive on PC and Xbox consoles will see “several new and original smartphone and tablet games based on the expansive sci-fi universe of Titanfall”, said game developer, Respawn Entertainment.
Respawn and Tokyo-based partner Nexon have cut a deal with mobile games developer Particle City to develop Titanfall’s new mobile version. Titanfall on mobiles will “create all-new standalone games with original gameplay experiences that expand the Titanfall universe to players everywhere”, according to Respawn.
No release date for Titanfall‘s first mobile game has been revealed, however.
Nexon is also developing a PC-based online free-to-play game in the Titanfall series that might be released in 2016. That title is being made in partnership with Respawn and Electronic Arts, said VentureBeat.
“Mobile devices are connected and accessible. That’s the big thing, the accessibility. I have been looking at it for a while, and I want to make the right move with the right partners”, said Respawn CEO Vince Zampella.
The first game for mobiles won’t be a first-person shooter title, and will take Titanfall’s gameplay in a new direction, according to Zampella.
Titanfall remains huge and was the third-highest-rated Xbox One game released in 2014. It’s also won over 60 awards at its E3 2013 reveal and a record-breaking six E3 Critics Awards and Best of Show from several media sites.
“Our partnership with Nexon is momentous for many reasons. Nexon’s unrivaled publishing network and free-to-play expertise will allow Titanfall to reach new global audiences. And with Particle City, we are closely collaborating to create all-new standalone games with original gameplay experiences that expand the Titanfall universe to players everywhere”, explained Zampella.
