Toon Link from 'Wind Waker' joins 'Hyrule Warriors Legends' roster
Toon Link will be joining Tetra and the King of Hyrule in “Hyrule Warriors Legends” for the Nintendo 3DS. The character has been called Toon Link by fans and Nintendo, thanks to his cartoony character model from the acclaimed Gamecube game “Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker,” which was later ported to the Wii U.
Unsurprisingly, Toon Link will be using his short sword from “Wind Waker” to take down numerous foes in “Dynasty Warriors-style” fashion. Siliconera has described the character as sharp and agile, with a unique battle style that lets him move around the battlefield freely. This should make him useful, as battles in “Hyrule Warriors” tend to be jam-packed with enemies.
Oddly enough, the character will not be playable in the game’s Legend mode. The reason for this seems to be the newly announced “Wind Waker” mode, where Toon Link will have a major role and will be one of the mode’s playable characters.
“Wind Waker” mode will also feature Tetra and the King of Hyrule, along with the Helmaroc King, who might be one of the many new bosses exclusive to this mode. Fans can expect Tetra and King Hyrule to be playable as well, though it’s unclear if they’re going to be in Legend mode or not.
It’s interesting seeing a mode like this pay tribute to “Wind Waker.” While details on the mode are slim, it’s clear that it was made to celebrate how great “Wind Waker” was. After all, the game doesn’t have any other modes that are specifically about “A Link to the Past” or “Twilight Princess.”
Thankfully, for fans of the character, Toon Link will be playable in other game modes and will be transferable to the original “Hyrule Warriors” on the Wii U, according to Perfectly Nintendo. This way, fans of the game who prefer to play it on the big screen can gain some of the exclusive content on the Nintendo 3DS.
“Hyrule Warriors Legends” will be getting a worldwide release on spring 2016 and for the Nintendo 3DS. The 3DS version of the game will come with all of the downloadable content, or DLC, that came out on the Wii U version. Fans can currently buy the original “Hyrule Warriors” for the Wii U in every leading game store.
