Sony upgrades its line of Vaio Series with the Vaio Flip. It is a different take from the usual laptop and tablet combination. Revealed during the IFA trade show in Berlin, the Sony Vaio Flip series offers people the convenience of switching between a notebook and a touch screen. It may seem the usual hybrid but Sony made sure it is not.

Aluminum Cover and Keyboard

Visually speaking, the Vaio Flip series appears incredibly good. It features a glossy aluminum exterior giving a high end appeal to it. The backlit keyboard is a top-notch feature, offering people an excellent typing experience.

Excellent Resolution

Imagine a resolution support of 2880 x 1620 pixels. This is the maximum resolution Sony offers for this line. It is one of the highest around as most notebooks are around 1080. The high pixel support makes the device ideal for visuals. Colors appear vibrant. It also adds to excellent user experience especially with the touch-sensitive display.

Organized Design

One of the biggest problems among hybrids is the hinges when the device transforms from laptop to tablet. In some cases, there are protruding parts which takes away user convenience in slate mode. For example, in Lenovo's Yoga, users expressed having a hard time hiding the keyboard. Sony solves that problem.

A hinge usually appears right under the back of Vaio Fit. It is not as appealing but fortunately Sony found a way to hide it neatly. This is essential to pop the screen and transform it into a tablet. Users should access the "lock/release" switch found on the Flip to change the laptop orientation. This is different from the two-part Sony Vaio Tap.

In this case, the magnetic screen of the laptop "pops" when pushed from the back of screen's top. People will have to watch out for the device folding because it may have misplaced components. It can also simply stay in laptop mode.

The Vaio Flip is bulkier than most notebooks. Users can use it better for lap-based or top-down desk type of work. Other than that, the laptop offers people a good deal for their money. People can find it worth paying for the price of two computing devices.
