LG Nexus 5 Battery Claims
Nexus 5 early reviews somehow revealed a weird battery problem from owners having a great time one day and then getting poor performance the next day. Some owners say their batteries are just fine.
According to PHAndroid, Chris Chavez reported a similar up-and-down performance on the device with his first day of use but the battery fared a lot better on the second day of use. The Nexus 5 boasts a 2,300 mAh battery pack which gives around 12 hours on his current charge, the report added.
As of now, reviews are ongoing regarding battery performance and life with recharging cycle to determine if it's the battery unit or system itself affecting battery life within the day.
Nexus 5 users, whether suffering or not with its battery performance, can try the following five tips to get more juice out of the device's battery.
GPS New Feature
Lots of apps are gathering location data such "check-ins" and "nearby" features that consumes power. Android 4.4 KitKat attempts to solve the issue with the new "Battery Saving GPS mode" which minimizes the number of reference points used to locate your current spot.
Enable the new GPS mode to save more power. Go to Settings > Location > Mode > Battery Saving.
OK Google
Just like with Siri, OK Google in Google Now can consume the Nexus 5's battery faster than expected as it waits quietly for your magical commands. Switch off the new feature if you are not using it by going to Google Now > Settings > Voice > Disable Hotword Detection.
NFC Only When Needed
KitKat or not, turn off the NFC connectivity on your NFC-supported handset or tablet to save more power. NFC is usually enabled without the owners' knowledge and it turns out that regardless of usage, NFC drains energy overtime. Go to Settings > More > NFC and also configure the Android Beam to be specific.
Turn Off Syncing
Every account you add including Gmail and Facebook, the Nexus 5 syncs automatically which drags data and drains power on the battery. Photos and files are sometimes synchronised to your Google account that can affect performance and best battery life. Turn off syncing on specific apps to "manual syncing" or "never" to save power or go to Settings > Accounts> Configure manually.
Power-Saving Tools
If you are unable to determine why the battery is getting drained, use the built-in power monitor on your device to see what is the culprit. Go to Settings > Battery > Check apps on the list. The power monitor will display which apps are consuming the largest amount of battery and usually categorises the screen as the biggest consumer.
Remove applications that are both unnecessary and drains power to prevent further battery issues and occasionally reboot your smartphone to give the device's system a refresh.
