‘Top Gun: Maverick’ recreating an iconic scene
New pictures from the production set of “Top Gun: Maverick” have reportedly leaked online. Among the nostalgic moments in the film is a recreation of an iconic bike scene with Tom Cruise (Lt. Pete Mitchell). Meanwhile, Christopher McQuarrie is reportedly working on the script.
According to a report by Cinemablend, leaked pictures show Cruise recreating an iconic scene from the 1986 film. Readers who have watched the first film will remember the bike scene in which Pete takes his love interest in the film Charlie (Kelly McGillis) for a ride. Something similar is being recreated for the upcoming film.
Cruise made the Kawasaki Ninja GPz900R famous by using it in the 1986 film. In the sequel the actor is reportedly using a Ninja H2, and with him is the new cast member Jennifer Connelly. Cruise can be seen wearing aviator sunglasses and a bomber jacket for this scene.
The report notes that the sequel could be heavy on nostalgia. With Val Kilmer reprising his role as pilot Iceman, there may even be another volleyball scene. Cruise has already confirmed that they have a new soundtrack for the film. The soundtrack of the 1986 film was just as big a hit as the movie.
Meanwhile, a report by Collider confirms that McQuarrie is helping Cruise with the script of the upcoming film. The screenplay of the movie has already been written, but Cruise relies on McQuarrie if there is some additional work that needs to be done.
McQuarrie and Cruise have worked together on many occasions in the past. McQuarrie wrote and directed the two “Mission: Impossible” films “Rogue Nation” and “Fallout.” The writer also helped with the scripts of “Edge of Tomorrow” and “The Mummy.”
“Top Gun: Maverick” is being directed by Joseph Kosinski. The film will be released on June 26, 2020 in the US.
