Trailer Released For Post-Apocalyptic Platformer ‘Drylands’
Inspired by post-apocalyptic titles like “Wasteland” and the “Fallout” series, “Drylands” is a platformer with roleplaying elements that just happens to be set in a post-apocalyptic world. Developed by Angry Bugs, the pixelated title is set for release very soon, so soon in fact that the post-apocalyptic “Drylands” will actually be available on April 15, which means that the title will be available some time tomorrow.
To celebrate the game’s release, Touch Arcade debuted the trailer to show gamers how “Drylands” will look like and how the game will play. As can be seen in the video below, the influence of games like “Fallout” and “Metro” are heavy, but the 2D pixelated graphics and the focus on it being a platformer could be considered a new point of view for a setting that’s usually so dark and grim.
Despite some of the “Metal Slug” influences in the shooting, the title doesn’t shy away from customization and other roleplaying elements. Tech Virals has also confirmed that players will also have to hack into certain mechanisms in the game and even repair their weapons with items that can be found as the game goes on, when they get overheated or even destroyed.
In addition to the hacking and repairing weapons, “Drylands” will also feature various side quests in the game. These quests include trying to repair gun turrets that protect the town of the protagonist as well as other minor fetch quests that will involve looking for parts or people. This gives the game an interesting atmosphere that makes the setting feel bigger than it appears, considering that the title is a mobile game, which could be saying a lot.
Fans who are dying to tame their “Fallout” itches only have to wait one more day to purchase “Drylands” from the app store. Combining a post-apocalyptic setting with gameplay similar to “Metal Slug” or “Gunstar Heroes” can be considered relatively fresh for the grim and depressing setting. While the title isn’t a light playthrough by any means, the numerous boss fights and the chaotic shooting should make gaming fans that grew up with computer games in the 90’s feel nostalgic.
