Despite the huge file size, PS4 and Xbox One gamers who purchased the latest big remaster to hit current gen consoles, “Borderlands: The Handsome Collection,” will want to download this latest update. The new patch, currently available for both consoles adds a slew of new content, makes numerous tweaks and fixes a long list of bugs.

Eurogamer notes that on Xbox One the patch breaks down to a 3GB update for “Borderlands 2” and 13GB for “Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.” The patch is so large in part because it adds an entire new add-on campaign, called “Claptastic Voyage.” Gearbox says the new content wasn’t quite finished in time to include it on the disc. Players are strongly advised to download and apply the patch before playing “The Handsome Collection.”

As noted by Gamespot, a number of gamer's on the Gearbox Software forums have reported screen-tearing and framerate issues with their copies of “The Handsome Collection.” It’s unknown at this point whether or not this latest patch includes framerate and general performance optimizations that will alleviate these issues.

The “Borderlands” franchise shows no signs of slowing down and has seen two mainline entries as well as a spin-off game called “Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.” It’s also currently the subject of an ongoing Telltale series of adventure games, called “Tales from the Borderlands.” Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford says if fans want it, there’s even more “Borderlands” on the way, specifically, a remaster of “Borderlands 1.”

Speaking on the latest Major Nelson Podcast, Pitchford said that sales of the recently released “Borderlands: The Handsome Collection” would determine whether or not publisher 2K would go ahead and greenlight a remaster. He added that one impediment would be the fact that “Borderlands 1” runs on a different engine than the other two games, but noted that that the problem wasn’t insurmountable.

“The fact that 'The Handsome Collection' has 'Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel' and 'Borderlands 2' means there's still that original game that isn't on next-gen yet. If this is successful, I'm sure the folks at 2K, the people that care about publishing and figure out how to get content in customers' hands if customers want it, will be noticing that and I'd love to have those conversations about how to bring Borderlands 1 to next-gen,” he said.

Pitchford also mentioned that “Borderlands 2” has sold well over 12M units to gamer's worldwide. This represents a massive increase over the success of “Borderlands 1,” which sold 3M units by Feb 2010, according to Engadget.
