Transfield Services gains NBN job in NSW
High speed broadband connections are about to become a reality for Kiama Downs and Minnamurra areas in NSW following the National Broadband Network's deal with Transfield Services yesterday.
Transfield Services is contracted to build the network that will connect more than 2500 homes in the two suburban areas of NSW, which were selected to be the first site among five to link up with the NBN's $43 billion network.
Construction operations are set to start within the year.
Mike Quigley, executive chairman of National Broadband Network Co. Ltd., said the fibre optic network would be installed trough different methods such as overhead power posts and current underground ducts.
The announcement of the deal with Transfield came just hours following Joanna Gash's, Gilmore's Liberal representative, criticised NBN for being only "addicted to announcements not action".
"It would appear the company's media department is on the ball, letting us know every time a new suburb pops into their head but as far as taking any real action, that remains to be seen," the Gilmore Liberal said.
She is still not impressed after the new NBN contract announcement.
"I'm just amazed that as soon as an election's in the air, they're falling over themselves to try and make something happen after making it an election promise three years ago," she remarked.
How the infrastructure of NBN would be implemented in Kiama Downs and Minnamurra remains to be seen, she commented.
"They've admitted that each site will have technology rolled out in different ways. Now, are the residents going to have a say in that, and council?"
NBN Co. said that specific details about the implementation would be released before construction begins.
