Despite things going against Samsung's marketing strategy at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Michael Bay's minor slip may have been a marketing success. During the CES 2014, Samsung scored famous Hollywood action film director Michael Bay to introduce and promote its latest television screen in Las Vegas. However, instead of presenting the television as planned, Mr Bay's teleprompter failed, prompting the director to walk off stage.

The audience blames two things for the failed presentation: the problematic teleprompter and stage fright. Regardless of the reason Michael Bay was unable to deliver his presentation during the tech event. Following the incident, the director wrote on his blog: "Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES...."

"I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP's intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down - then I walked off."

"I guess live shows aren't my thing."

Mr Bay agreed to give his name to Samsung's new 105-inch curved UHD television. He started the presentation saying, "My job, as a director, is I get to dream for a living." He described Hollywood as a place that "creates a viewer escape."

"And what I try to do is I ... uhhh, the type is all off -- sorry, but I'll just wing this," he added.

Samsung executive vice president Joe Stinziano encouraged the director to speak further and Bay continued with, "We'll wing it right now. I try to take people on an emotional ride and ..."

It was when Mr Stinziano talked to Mr Bay about the impact of the product that the director decided to exit the stage. He apologised before walking out. While there are mixed reactions over the incident, some social media users think the incident even did Samsung better.

"Samsung has gotten more attention because of this minor slip-up than they would have otherwise. I for one would never have heard of the Curved TV if not for this. So, this is a marketing success!," user alanb commented on Mr Bay's blog.

"Leave Michael Bay alone, some of the most talented and creative ppl in the world suffer from anxiety and stage-fright," posted filmmaker Zak Bagans on Twitter.

The media release from Samsung introducing the latest curved television refrained from mentioning Mr Bay. For a video of the incident, click here.
