Trends That Have Shaped The Mobile Industry
The Mobile Industry has certainly grown in leaps and bounds if compared to the first kind of mobile technology that was used 10 year ago.
2011 was no exception in terms of the different advancement and technological innovation that was implemented in the mobile industry. These trends have certainly influenced the way mobile phones are constructed and also affected the way people use their mobile phones. For the year 2010, Forrester Research released its annual mobile technology report which tackled the different trends for the coming year. In the year 2011, these mobile trends were discussed through an article written in website, iMedia Connection.
Here are some of the mobile trends last 2011:
Powerful Phones
Some of the mobile phones that were launched in the year 2011 were considered as one of the most powerful mobile phones in the market. One example of such phones was the HTC Edge that is the first quad-core 1.5GHz processor. This type of processor would enable users to fully utilize their mobile phones and do things easier and faster as compared before. Aside from powerful processors, most mobile phones also offer a wider yet clearer screen and display resolution. Examples of such mobile phones are Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus Prime. Combining these factors with the powerful processors being developed lately would really affect the future of mobile phones.
Keyboard Dock/Lapdock
Accessories included for mobile phones are now much more useful and one example for it is the use of "lapdocks" which is also known as "keyboard docks". This works as a normal keyboard for computers or laptops but it is very portable. If used with a mobile phone, it instantly transforms a mobile phone into a laptop-like device in terms of physical form as well as function. Motorola have utilized this feature through the release of the Atrix phone while ASUS incorporated the keyboard dock in their tablet, the Transformer Prime.
Patent War Worldwide
In almost every country, there are different cases filed against different mobile manufacturer regarding patent violations. Some companies involved in this kind of case include Apple, Samsung, Motorola, etc. Even Google's Android is also involved in patent cases against Apple. This new battle which takes place in the courtroom has certainly plagued the mobile industry. Some cases that were filed for the year 2011 were already resolved like the Samsung vs. Apple case in Australia but there are still patent cases that are still ongoing and would take a long time to be resolved. This patent war would more or less continue for the year 2012.
Android Domination
Google's Android has certainly made an impact in the market as shown in the research done by Gartner. According to the report, Android phones were accountable for 52.5% of the mobile phones that were sold worldwide. One of the reasons why Google Android has met with considerable success is because of its "open-source policy" in which developers could have access to this platform. Aside from that, most mobile phone manufacturers are also actively manufacturing Android-based phones to be sold in the market. Despite the patent cases against Google's Android, this OS have certainly proved its stand for the year 2011 and 2012 could be a continuation of this dominance in the market.
