Twitter buys TweetDeck for $50 million: reports
As Twitter aims for greater influence online, speculations suggest that it has obtained one of its top desktop clients, for $40-$50 million. Announcements are expected to follow soon.
TweetDeck is one of Twitter’s top third party customers using software application for Internet social networking services.
Sources close to Michael Arrington of TechCrunch confirmed TweetDeck’s purchase by Twitter. The deal which is comprised of cash and stock could close in less than ten days. If successful, it would represent one of five-year-old Twitter's largest acquirements to date.
The deal shall provide Twitter an application that has been famed among sophisticated users for its professional interface and enhanced capabilities as it closes out a possible threat to Twitter's fast-growing service.
TweetDeck was earlier reported to be in talks with UberMedia about purchase deals which values less than what Twitter offers. UberMedia is a Pasadena web company that was established by businessman Bill Gross.
According to reports, UberMedia has been in the custom of acquiring Twitter applications which it can use in putting up an opponent social network to Twitter. UberMedia already owns EchoFon, a famous Twitter client.
