Twitter Includes A New Feature That Allows Users To Share Their Blocked Lists To Minimise Harassment By Spammers And Stalkers
Twitter has announced a new feature that enables users to share their blocked lists making it harder for stalkers and spammers to harass users, according to reports.
Twitter said on June 10 that users will be able to share blocked lists with other users who might be getting harassed by the same accounts and this will allow users to block multiple accounts all at once, instead of blocking them individually, reports CNET.
Xiaoyun Zhang, Engineer, User Safety at Twitter said through the company’s blog, Mute and Block are tools that enable users to control their ‘Twitter’ experience. Taking cognizance of the high volumes of unwanted interactions, Twitter has realized the need for more sophisticated tools. The company expects that the advanced blocking tools will be useful for the developer community to improve user experience, expressed Twitter through its official blog.
The micro blogging site had launched the blocked accounts settings page last December and in April, the company announced additional policy and enforcement changes. Twitter is also working on additional user controls, as per the company’s blog.
Very recently, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo admitted that the bullying behaviour is driving away users and promised to take necessary measure to combat this practice on the social network, reports CNET. Twitter has about 300 monthly active users but the users growth has been slowing down, reports Forbes.
“We lose core user after core user by not addressing simple trolling issues that they face every day,” the Forbes report quoted Costolo, as saying. “I’m frankly ashamed of how poorly we’ve dealt with this issue during my tenure as CEO. There’s no excuse for it. We’re going to start kicking these people off right and left and making sure that when they issue their ridiculous attacks, nobody hears them,” the Forbes report quotes Costolo further.
According to report on the Wired, users can learn from other users trolling incidents and safeguard themselves against the offenders in advance.
