A blazing sun may not be the best thing for most laptops but not for Ubuntu-running Sol. The ruggedized laptop can endure being under the sun because it harness the sunlight for power.
Nothing like a good device to make the most of where you are - plus users can save a great deal on electricity consumption. They do not need to plug their devices to charge it up. Nonetheless, Ubuntu has also developed the device not just to save on energy costs.
The company aims to provide people in countries where electricity remains scarce or difficult to access. As it was stated, Ubuntu-running Sol aims to provide developing countries a means to stay connected and be exposed to digital technology even without power.
As the name of the laptop implies, the device packs on solar panels for power. Users need to unfold the panels to being charging the device. OMG Ubuntu reported that the Sol's battery came from the Canadian company WeWi Telecommunications. When charged, the laptop's battery offers up to 10 hours.
It only takes two hours to charge the entire battery.
Ubuntu still needs to make an official announcement about the device. The website does not reveal anything about the official specs or the date of release. Assuming the device is really coming to stores then it should be able to separate itself from the rest of the offerings today.
Many laptops offer more than 8 hours of battery life but there is none yet providing the features and functions of this rumored Ubuntu device. Nonetheless, other sources predict the following features to be most likely included in this release: HD display, Intel processor, WiFi connectivity and optional satellite module for accessing the internet.
People will not have to wait for long as Ubuntu's website hints that the announcement is well within this week. Stay tuned.
