UK firm reveals iPhone accessory set to morph the modern gadget into a brick phone
Fancy an iPhone in your hand that closely resembles the iconic brick-like mobile phones of the 1980s? A British accessory manufacturer found a way to fuse the two generations of tech icons by introducing a phone holder that brings in the retro feel of the then-emerging mobile phone elite usage.
Back then, not too many were using the initial batch of portable phones that were both wallet and space hog yet they were definitely chic and represented a cultural icon that Thumbs Up is aiming to cash in.
The UK-based phone accessory maker firmly believes that the mobile phone industry would be receptive to its 'innovation' and a solid demand for the iPhone holder would emerge following its launch.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Thumbs Up said that "by today's standards, you'd be forgiven for mistaking a 1980s mobile phone for, well, a house brick, but back in the day these chunky must-haves were the ultimate status symbol."
The company added that while the mobile phone industry has achieved considerable improvements in tweaking today's handsets for maximum usability and portability it stressed though that "the 80s mobile remains a design icon in its own right, and with this funky phone case, you can get the best of both worlds."
Thumbs Up said that the iPhone accessory will formally hit the shelves on March this year and will sell for £12.99 apiece or roughly $A20.66 for Australians planning to own one.
The company said that its iPhone additional will be noted for its ease of use as consumers would simply slot their gadget "into the custom-made holder and capture the look and feel of the 1980s 'house brick' without losing any of your 21st-century specs."
