Episode 4 of the first season of Under The Dome began with Julia Shumway (Rachel Lefevre) and her growing distrust over Dale “Barbie” Barbara (Mike Vogel), following her discovery of a map with red marks at Chester’s Mill. The town’s only local journalist and her growing suspicion of Barbie have increased tremendously until her unwanted discovery of the truth of her husband’s connection to the war veteran amidst the outbreak that caused more fear among townspeople.

The episode focused on the outbreak where people pass out from unknown illness. The residents were brought to the hospital for treatment, but more problems arose due to lack of medical supplies, leaving Big Jim no choice but to raid a pharmacy and enlisting Barbie to join him.

They found out that Reverend Lester (Ned Bellamy) took all of them to stop the people from being treated and to let them die, because for him, it was what God really wanted. In the end, Big Jim and Barbie overpowered the reverend and they got what they wanted. They took all the medicines they could save from the reverend who was already burning all of them when the two got hold of the church official.

They went back to the hospital with all the medicines and Big Jim found out that his son, James Junior Rennie (Alexader Koch), had earned the respect of the residents of the Chester’s Mil after leaving him in charge of those who got sick. Big Jim had earlier asked Junior to guard those infected with the unknown virus, and he had to ensure that no one was to leave the hospital.

The “quarantine” as Junior put it, had made him the bad guy at first since people see him brandishing a shotgun against those who insisted on leaving the hospital. But the tables have been turned when he gave a speech, reminding people of how they know each other and that how they used to trust each other, noting there’s no reason for them to stop now. Junior’s speech touched everyone, and he had even made a bigger impact when he let the shotgun standing by the door, serving ‘a new guard’ and/or letting people decide to toss it so they could leave.

This impressed Deputy Linda Esquivel (Natalie Martinez), who got sick of an unknown illness. Everyone decided to heed Junior’s plea, and they opted to stick around the hospital. Except for Julia.

Julia insisted on finding out what happened to her husband and why Phil Bushey (Nicholas Strong) has his car. He was about to tell her until he passed out and both of them got sick too, and that’s how both landed at the hospital. She tried to leave, but Junior wouldn’t let her. The course of conversation allowed Junior, unintentionally, to reveal that he saw Barbie at the cabin. He told Julia that like what happened in Episode 2, “Fire” Junior followed Barbie, and they ended up at a cabin where Barbie went to look for his dogtags.

After learning of the cabin, Julia found more reason to insist on locating it and finding out what Barbie was lying about. Hoping to find answers for her missing husband, she left the hospital building using the door key her husband uses as hospital doctor.

Julia located the cabin. And after tossing things around in a place of already in disarray, she saw a document at one of the drawers, and she passed out learning something her husband has been hiding from her all these years - - that her husband was in debt.

By this time, Barbie was back at the hospital with all the medicines for everyone. He went straight to Phil to find out what Julia what wanted from him. The scene quite revealed the relationship between Phil and Julia’s husband and why he had the car. Barbie decided to search for Julia and he drove straight to the cabin. He found her lying on the floor, hallucinating.

Julia was saved as Barbie brought her back to the hospital. She woke up with Barbie on her side and decided to ask for the truth. The scene revealed what Barbie does for a living. But it also pushed him to lie to Julia once again. He told Julia her husband was not dead, but he just took off because of being deep in too much debt. Julia asked him to leave her house, and the episode ended with the photo frame with Julia and her husband, defocused Barbie, leaving the house main door.
