Unlocked SIM-free iPhone 6 And iPhone 6 Plus Now Available For Purchase In The US
Apple has started selling unlocked SIM-free iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the U.S. from Jan 6. Interested buyers can purchase the handsets either through physical stores or online.
9 to 5 Mac states that unlocked iPhone 6 models were only available through T-Mobile but starting from Jan. 6 both the handsets will be sold without SIM-card. This will allow users to use any SIM card of their choice on their handsets, thereby giving them the freedom to use the new iPhones anywhere in the world by switching carriers at any time. Unlocked handsets will certainly appeal those customers who do not wish to get tied to any one specific carrier through contract for one or two years, states CNBC.
In the past too, unlocked iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S were sold around two months after these handsets were launched in 2012 and 2014 respectively. However, this time around Apple is selling the unlocked editions of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus phablet after a gap of about four months after the handsets were launched in September 2014.
As far as the pricing is concerned, the pricing of the unlocked handsets are same as the unlocked iPhone 6 models available through T-Mobile. The unlocked 16 GB iPhone 6 is available for $649, the unlocked 64 GB iPhone 6 is priced at $749 and the unlocked 128 GB iPhone 6 can be availed for $849. The unlocked 16 GB iPhone 6 Plus costs $749, the unlocked 64 GB iPhone 6 Plus has a price tag of $849 and lastly, the unlocked 128 GB iPhone 6 Plus can be bought for $949.PhoneArena claims that after buying an unlocked iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, users will have to use nano SIM card on the device as the both the handsets do not support micro SIM card.
The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus are the best-selling smartphones of 2014 and it has broken all the previous iPhone sales record.
