Unreal Engine 3 Comes to Adobe Flash, Console Quality Games in Websites Now Achievable
At the Adobe Max event in Los Angeles, Epic Games CEO and co-founder, Tim Sweeney demonstrated the Unreal Engine 3 running in Flash during his keynote. Epic Games decided to showcase a level in "Unreal Tournament" as their tech demo.
Epic Games has already tested the Unreal Engine 3 on Flash with their game "Epic Citadel" and decided to use a level in Unreal Tournament instead to demonstrate the full capabilities of the game engine and Flash.
The demonstration of the capabilities of Flash to render the Unreal Engine 3 is made possible with Flash 11 having a direct access to the Graphic Processing Unit via DirectX 9. All previous versions of Flash renders 3D in software which burdens the Processor which has been a woe to many computers making Flash one of the least favorite platform to develop games and websites on.
With these new advancement in Flash it is now possible to play Unreal Tournament in your browser or your social network. 3D models or artwork can now be shown in the browser without older computers choking.
Unreal Engine 3 is not the first game engine to be able to work with the new Flash. Alternativa Platform has a working game engine and a demo page showcasing games that can run on your browser.
For now, the game engine is still in development to be released for game developers using the Unreal Engine 3. A video of Epic Citadel Flash test.
