Samsung Galaxy S2 users can now experience the Android 4.4.2 update through a new custom firmware. The Android 4.4.2 SuperNexus 4.0 ROM gives Galaxy S2 users another option to update their devices. The firmware came from the XDA team, specifically a user named Faryaab.

According to Droid Report, the new SuperNexus 4.0 ROM is created based on Google's AOSP. This is one of the most reliable and stable Vanilla Android ROMs around. Sources also highlight that a SuperNexus ROM featuring Android 4.4.2 KitKat offers a whole new experience. The release is stable and lightweight, thanks to the team from OmniROM and CyanogenMod.

Prior to updating, satisfy the following requirements:

  • Galaxy S2 handset with model number: I9100. Using any other model may brick the device.
  • The device should be rooted.
  • The device should have ClockworkMod.
  • Charge the phone at least 80 per cent.
  • Enable USB debugging. To do this, go to Settings and open Developer Options.

Installation instructions:

1. Download the ROM via this link. Download the Google Apps package as well.

2. Connect the Samsung Galaxy S2 to the computer via USB cable. Transfer the SuperNexus 4.0 ROM and Google Apps package to the SD card of the device. Transfer specifically to the root folder.

3. Turn off the phone and disconnect it from the computer.

4. Boot the device into Recovery mode. Press and hold the Power, Home and Volume Up buttons simultaneously.

5. Through the CWM recovery, do the following tasks: "wipe data/factory reset," "wipe cache" and "wipe dalvik cache." Go to the submenu and choose the "mounts and storage" to format the system.

6. In the CWM recovery, go to "Install Zip from SD card." Go back to the ROM transferred earlier. Choose the ROM and install. The processor should take a couple of minutes. Wait until the installation is complete.

7. Repeat installation steps for Google Apps.

8. Once the ROM is installed, go to "Reboot System Now" and let the handset restart. Once the phone boots back, it will run officially on SuperNexus's 4.4.2 KOT49H KitKat custom ROM.
