Google Nexus 4 is now upgradable to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean bringing out the latest features of Android OS. However, Nexus 4 runs the Android UI more or less and almost no room for tweaks or customisation. If you are bored with the current looks of your Nexus 4, update it with Milestone 1 custom firmware running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

Milestone 1 is an AOKP ROM based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and directly built from the AOSP source which is the stable version except with various additions for tweaking and customisation options.

Requirements

1. Your Nexus 4 must be rooted to flash this custom ROM.

2. Install the necessary USB drivers of Nexus 4 on your computer.

3. Create a backup of all personal information, settings and data files on your device.

4. Install a custom recovery app on the Nexus 4 such as ClockworkMod for easier flashing of this ROM.

5. Enable the USB Debugging mode on your device.

6. Make sure that the battery level is at least 80 per cent to avoid any power interruption.

7. Create a Nandroid backup of your current ROM in case something goes wrong.

8. Download the Milestone 1 firmware and the Google Apps package on your computer.

Warning: This is a custom ROM and developers are not liable for any damage which may happen on your device. Read and follow the instructions carefully to avoid any errors during installation. Do this at your own risk.

Flashing Instructions

1. Connect the Nexus 4 to the computer using a USB cable.

2. Copy the Milestone 1 firmware and the Google Apps files you have downloaded earlier on your Nexus 4.

3. Switch off the Nexus 4 and disconnect it from your computer.

4. Reboot into Bootloader mode by pressing and holding Volume Up + Volume Down + Power keys as you turn it on.

5. Select Bootloader on the screen and proceed to Recovery mode.

6. Inside the ClockworkMod recovery, perform a full data wipe on your Nexus 4 by selecting "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition."

7. After that, proceed to "advanced" and perform a "wipe dalvik cache" on your device.

8. Go back and proceed to installation. Select "install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card". Choose the Milestone 1 firmware zip you have copied then confirm the installation. Do the same with the Google Apps package.

9. Go back to the main menu and select "reboot system now."

10. Wait for at least 5 minutes till the boot finishes.

Now it's all done! Your Nexus 4 is not boring anymore with Milestone 1 running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. To check if the installation was successful, go to "Settings > About Phone."
