If you think you can't take 2K videos with your iPhone 5s, think again. If you are willing to pay $7, you can use your iPhone to shoot the HD video you always want.

Apple offered to upgrade iPhone 5s from 1080p HD to 2K video for a couple of bucks. Ultrakam's new iPhone app can do this trick!

If you want an app to convert your iPhone 5s camera to higher resolution - it does not. The app allows the software to use more of the hardware capabilities of your device's camera. Although Apple said iPhone 5s only has 1080p HD video camera, that is not exactly the case. The camera hardware of iPhone 5s can capture HD video up to 3264 x 2448 resolution. But the software cannot process many pixels at a sensible time.

The built-in camera app enables iPhone 5s to capture HD video at up to 120 fps. But the Ultrakam app takes the opposite route, which limits the frame-rate to 30fps. As such, iPhone 5s camera will have a more efficient codec to capture 2K video or 2240 x 1672 resolution. Also, this app allows users to shoot at 24 fps for a film-like look.

Don't expect that with this app, you will be able to shoot blockbuster movies with your iPhone 5s. It must be noted that a 2K video takes 3 GB of memory storage per minute, which means that you'll only get only 20 minutes of footage with the 64 GB iPhone 5s with almost nothing stored in it. The app is limited to 20 fps when it is used on iPhone 5.
