VGA Wrap-Up: Trailers to Next Year's Biggest Games
Aside from honoring the best video games of the year, Spike TV's Video Game Awards also gives gamers a look at some of the biggest games coming out next year. Here are some of the exclusive trailers that premiered on the VGA's last night.
One of the biggest trailers unveiled at the VGA's is the renamed "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance". Originally called "Metal Gear Solid Rising", the players will now be able to control cyborg ninja, Raiden. Long running main character Solid Snake will take a backseat to the ninja who first appeared in the second Metal Gear. The game will take place after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4 and will feature gameplay that is more suited to melee combat. Platinum Games will develop the game. The game is expected to hit shelves next year.
The VGA trailer for "BioShock: Infinite" didn't really reveal anything new that fans haven't seen before in previously released trailers. It did however show the doomed floating city of Columbia but with a haunting song from the game's female character Elizabeth. It's still one of the most anticipated games for 2012.
Screenshots and a test gameplay trailer for the next Tom Clancy game Rainbow Six: Patriots have been floating around the net for the last few months but there wasn't an official teaser trailer until the VGA. The game is set in the near future where a group of terrorists calling themselves the Patriots have decided to take action against the governments of the world. The game isn't set to be released until 2013 but the teaser is enough to put this game on the radar.
Blizzard showed off the opening cinematic trailer for its highly anticipated MMORPG "Diablo 3". The video doesn't really spoil much since the video is the first thing players will see when starting the game. The opening does reveal Leah's uncle: Deckard Cain of previous Diablo games. The trailer is gorgeous but does leave out one important thing, the date for the game's release.
Naughty Dog developer of "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" showed off a new PlayStation3- exclusive horror franchise titled "The Last of Us". The game is a blend of survival horror and action about a population destroyed by a plague. Remaining survivors are killing each other for food and players will have to control Joel, a ruthless survivor and Ellie a young teenage girl across the post-apocalyptic landscape.
Epic Games was also present at the VGA's to reveal its latest original franchise, "Fortnite". The new game is a blend of different genres from survival horror, tower defense, shooter and action into one game. It looks interesting but there will be inevitable comparisons with Minecraft.
It looks like it's going to be another great year for video games.
