A new Apple TV ad titled Misunderstood has gone viral on Tube with almost 130,000 hits just 9 hours after it was posted.
The 1-minute, 31-second commercial shows the company's latest device and feature, the iPhone 5S and AirPlay, without serving as distractions to the heart-warming story of a family who went on a Christmas winter holiday. Like any normal family, the teenage kids feel a little bit misunderstood because they spend so much time on their gadgets.
However, as the commercial shows, these gadgets could also be used to draw the clan together on special occasions like the yearend Yuletide holiday. The commercial was shot with the iPhone 5S, which would likely be a favourite gift item among families that can afford its price tag.
The video of the family's holiday moments were shown using the AirPlay, an Apple TV feature that allows wireless stream content from iOS devices to the television set.
The poignant TV ad hopes to sell more iPhone 5S, and if the study of Asymco, a research firm, is to be believed, by 2017, about 68 per cent of Americans will own an iPhone.
Although the projections seem too good to be true, it should be emphasised that it is possible because it only refers to the American market and many U.S. residents would be naturally drawn to products made in the country as their way of showing their nationalism.
However, outside the 50 states, other studies indicate that phones run on Android OS, mainly made by rival firm, the South Korean giant Samsung, would continue to dominate global sales of smartphones and even tablets.
