Justice came swift for a 17-year-old single mum who was shamed by a Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer priest during the baptism of her baby on Sunday at the Sacred Heart Chapel in Mandaue City. After the video of his public shaming became viral on social media, GMA 7 reported that Fr Romeo Obach was suspended while a probe is ongoing.

The hits of that video had jumped to more than 50,000 by Thursday night from only 14,000 plus a day earlier.
Fr Obach has issued an apology and also personally apologised to the young mum after the public furor created by his sermon.
Netizens who have viewed the original video, which is in Cebuano language but with English subtitles, sided with the unwed mother. According to the Philippine Star, the young mum's boyfriend abandoned her for another girl, and she attempted to commit suicide because of the incident but later sought counseling.

Msgr Esteban Binghay, Episcopal Vicar of the Archdiocese of Cebu, said the decision of the unwed mum to continue with her pregnancy despite the shame is commendable, and Fr Obach should have respected that decision.
As part of the sanctions made by his order, Fr Obach could not say Mass or perform other sacraments, including baptism.
Pope Francis would surely be happy of the congregation and the public's reaction to the event since he shares the same stand on baptising children of unwed mums and had done it himself at the Sistine Chapel.
