Jason Mortensen felt he hit the jackpot upon waking up from surgery. The sales manager from the U.S. woke up groggy from a surgery, apparently surprised to learn that he is married to a bombshell of a wife.

A viral video uploaded online shows Mr Mortensen still weak from a surgery and unable to remember that he is actually married.

Although the story sounds like a plot taken from the Hollywood film “The Vow,” it indubitably has a happier ending than the Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams flick.

“Are you a model?” a drugged up Mr Mortensen asked his wife while she was filming the scene. “Who are you? What’s your name?”

“My name is Candice, I’m your wife,” Mrs Mortensen replied.

“You’re my wife?” her flabbergasted husband said. “Oh my God! I hit the jackpot!”

The video became viral since it was uploaded on August 30. As of the time of writing, it has more than 7.3 million views on YouTube.

“In response to all of the questions: I had a hernia repair to fix residual tears from a previous surgery,” Mr Mortensen wrote on the video’s description.

“I wish I could remember this but I was definitely out of it. This was my fifth surgery within our six years of marriage and she’s been by my side through all of it. In a previous surgery I suffered a sever complication and we didn’t know if I’d ever function the same again.

“She is the love of my life.”

Mr Mortensen, according to the Daily Mail, was a former missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He started his own marketing company, Kangaroo Clips, in 2010, and has been married to his wife for six years already.

While there are online commenters who thought he just inadvertently became the sweetest husband in the country, there are also those who doubt the authenticity of the video. Some thought that he was merely acting and his wife might just be humouring him.

“Is Jimmy Kimmel gonna show up in the extended version?” one YouTube comment reads, referring to the recently revealed hoax perpetuated by the U.S. late night show host, in which the viral twerking video fail was his idea all along.

“He obviously knew it was his wife the whole time, but he was playing it up,” another commenter wrote.

One commenter defended the video, writing, “That was the best video I’ve seen in a long time. A perfect example of true love. He was truly amazed that this woman was his wife, and his compliments were so honest. I don’t know about her, but I’d feel like a million bucks. I’m pretty sure she did too.”

Adding to the fake-real debate is University of California-San Diego psychologist Dr Larry Squire, who told Slate.com that it appeared that Mr Mortensen was just faking his amnesia.

He said that there are two types of amnesia, one is the psychogenic amnesia and the other is from oxygen deprivation.

“The second, which is similar to Alzheimer’s, can be caused by a loss of oxygen during surgery, but mainly leads to difficulty learning new information. Anaestheisa or surgery deprivation can cause some retrograde memory loss, but it wouldn’t wipe out six years of marriage,” the Web site wrote Dr Squire’s explanation.

Also, Reddit users found an old headshot of the man in question from an audition Web site, which perhaps meant that he was just acting all along.
