The Voice UK 2017 winner is Mo Adeniran: Find out about his journey to the winning spot
The Voice UK 2017 winner Mo Adeniran: Know more
The Voice UK 2017 winner has been revealed, and it is none other than audience favourite Mo Adeniran. The 21-year-old was declared winner on Sunday night with coach Jennifer Hudson. Adeniran won in the final stages by singing “Unsteady,” which is out now and is currently #7 on iTunes.
Let's take a look at Adeniran's journey in the competition. The Nigerian-born singer made his way into Team Hudson after he sang his version of “A Change Is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke. In his first audition, Adeniran sang “Iron Sky” by Paolo Nutini and impressed everyone. Adeniran was in trouble in the Knockouts but was saved by public vote. In the quarter-finals, Hudson used her power to let him through to next week. The singer went through the semi-final round to get in the finals after public voted in his favour.
He competed against Into the Ark, Jamie and Michelle to win one of the last three places in Sunday's grand final, a stage when judges Sir Tom Jones, Gavin Rossdale, Jennifer Hudson and Will.i.am lose their power. The three finalists performed one last time to win the public vote. The audience voted in favour of Adeniran and Into the Ark, thus eliminating Jamie. What happened next was history. Adeniran won The Voice UK 2017 and was declared winner.
However, it has not been an easy journey for the singer, given his tough past. As a child of three, Adeniran was adopted into a family where his mother was abusive. This led to social service taking him away from his mother when he was eight.
The star was then placed back in social services, and he had a very difficult teenage phase. The toughest time was when Adeniran lost his best friend Mike Carter in 2015 from a painkiller overdose. In 2016, Adeniran suffered more personal loss when he lost another friend in a car accident.
Despite all odds, Adeniran defeated all his setbacks and emerged victorious. Talking about his future plans on the release of EP, he told Express UK that he wants to diversify his genre and not stick to one particular style of singing.
“I don’t choose to stick to one genre, I think that limits your creativity. I plan to write and to collaborate and when the new music’s released I know people will love it.” Meanwhile, check out his winning song “Unsteady” from The Voice UK finals below.
