Warner Bros. CEO Calls DC Films 'Edgier' Than Marvel Films, Talks 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'
Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara recently revealed on Wednesday at Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference that DC films are "edgier than Marvel films." He also added that there is much diversity amongst the DC films and this reportedly works for their advantage.
“The key thing is that the movies and the television shows and the games, everything looks very different …you have to be able to take advantage of the diversity of these characters,” he added, according to Variety. He also said that DC films are steeped into “realism.”
He even talked about comic book movies business and denies that it is suffering. He also added that the awareness of superhereos is growing globally and this helps in the film’s marketing. The website further notes that 70% of business comes from global market and this works to the advantage of comic book films.
“The big franchises are becoming more and more valuable. You don’t have to explain to the consumer what a ‘Batman v Superman’ is,” he added as per Cinema Blend. “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is one of the most anticipated films. It stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot in the lead role. The film is being directed by Zack Snyder and has already gained much attention. The film is a sequel to “Man of Steel” and is written by Chris Terrio, from a story by Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer. The film will also introduce Aquaman on the silver screen. Jason Momoa is set to play the role and this has added more anticipation to the film.
Meanwhile, other upcoming DC films include “Shazam” and “Suicide Squad.” “Shazam” will focus on Captain Marvel and Black Adam. The film will tell the story of a boy who will get the powers of the wizard of Shazam and will be fighting the evil forces. Dwayne Johnson will play the role of Black Adam and it is not yet known who will play Captain Marvel. Meanwhile, “Suicide Squad” will see a group of super villains coming together to execute a dangerous task in return of shorter prison time.
