While the Galaxy S5 release date may not happen this week via the 2014 CES in Las Vegas, once the device peeks out later in the year Samsung is practically assuring of a superphone that brims with killer specs and features.

Such is made possible by Samsung's new mobile DRAM technology, which according to Gotta Be Mobile will likely lead to the rollout of Galaxy devices that bear 4GB of RAM, which is a major boost from the RAM provisions that were seen in the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 in 2013.

And when paired with the 64-bit Exynos 6 chip that Samsung is unveiling this week, the likelihood of an incredibly powerful and superfast mobile phone to hit the market this year gets stronger. The same is true not only for the Galaxy S5 but also for the Galaxy Note 4, Samsung's refreshed phablet for 2014, added the GBM report.

Another major benefit that the LPDDR4 will bring in is a significant bump in battery use for smartphones and tablets that will use new RAM system and Exynos 6. "The chips will also offer faster speeds as well. Speeds are said to be double of what the LPDDR3 RAM offers while consuming 40 percent less power," GBM said.

Somehow, Samsung appears headed into making its toughest iPhone contender ever by lumping three important features into a single device model - speed, might plus extended battery hours. In short, both the GS5 and the Note 4 are touted as iPhone killers by the time they come out.

And expected to be part of the whole deal is the more robust Galaxy S5 frame that will house the raw power Samsung is packing with the handset.

Reports suggest the Galaxy maker is going metal for its 2014 hero phone though there also indications that most of the Galaxy S4 body design template will be retained - the GS5 will remain covered in durable polycarbonate casing.

Fusing these contradictory reports, it should be safe to assume that the Galaxy S5, and perhaps the Galaxy Note 4 too, will be built in two editions - one made of plastic and another wrapped in metal alloy.

The device is also rumoured to stretch its screen size a bit, from the GS4's 5-inch to 5.2-inch as hinted by a leaked steel frame image in late 2013. The display panel is also believed to be rendered in wraparound effect - with the left and right side of the screen overlapping to provide for message reading in various device angles.

This possibility is supported by a new Samsung device design patent that was recently published.

While the Galaxy Note 4 is pegged to come out in the second half of 2014, the Galaxy S5 release date is seen to happen in the first quarter of the year, likely by February with the 2014 MWC as the phone's launch platform.
