Wearable Tech Makes 61% of Users More Informed
Wearable Tech Products is the Next Big Thing in Technology
Now that the market for smartphones has been saturated, the new product line that’s making waves in the business world is wearable technologies. With computer-linked products like the iWatch and the Google Glass, the devices are much more closer and personal. Although some of these devices have actual functions like making phone calls, or browsing the Net, many wearable tech products work better as syncing devices that for example, alert you when you have a phone call on your mobile device.
Google glass enables users to take pictures, send messages, along with getting directions. This is the kind of product in the way we do business. As technology bring you closer to the device, there is some debate about the potential advantages and drawbacks of wearable products.
Sonny Vu, partner of a firm called Misfit Wearables, feels wearable tech looks like it is going mainstream. "It's still kind of limited in what it can do. And a lot of it looks unwearable. Google Glass makes you look so geeky," said Vu. Geeky or not, Vu believes 2013 will be a big year for wearables in technology.
"It makes you look at technology in a different way. We are moving to a world where technology interacts with us – you are not just staring at a screen. It is suggesting things to you. Maybe go for a walk, or reminding you that you need to shop for food," The Guardian reports.
It can still take some time for consumers to adjust to new products. For instance, while the Google glass is a unique and fun device, it might not be something that people would want to wear indoors. Analysts say that it is still too early for companies to find an appropriate function for the Google glass.
In another example of revolutionary products, Rackspace, a U.S.-based cloud technology firm, said that about six percent of businesses offered the devices to their employees.
However, there are other tech gurus who think that the world of technology will change the way we conduct business. Cognizant Technology Solutions chief, Ved Sen is optimistic. Mr. Sen says that just Google Glass could change things drastically. This is particularly true of manual workers, for example auto repair mechanics, who need to have good vision while using their hands for multi-tasking.
The Google glass can provide a computing environment for a sales person. When a client walks in, the salesman has access to all the information so he can make well informed decisions for the client. It would even remember the customer’s birthday.
In terms of connectivity, the wearable device though smaller than a PC will gain in significance in places where there is no laptop or a smartphone to use as a connecting device.
Research director at Deloitte, Duncan Stewart told BBC, "The most impact is not when it is replacing the smartphone or PC, but when it gives connectivity to someone who doesn't have access to a mobile or laptop," he says.
The retail industry could also gain from wearable tech since gadgets with various functionalities could be included into clothing.
According to Wearable Technology from Novelty to Productivity, Rackspace, about half of those surveyed felt they were intelligent, 61% said they were well informed and had improved self efficiency, while 37% said that wearable technology assisted in developing careers.
