What to Know So Far About Nexus 6 Release: October/November Launch and Killer Features
Many reports about the Nexus X, more commonly known as the Nexus 6, have been flying about, but one has been consistent: news sources expect an Android Land launch of the Nexus 6 by October or November.
Highlight Press reports that sources say the Nexus 6/X may be released as early as November 1 this year.
According to PC Advisor, the rumored Q4 release of the Nexus 6/X may be accurate, as previous versions of the Nexus were released around the same time. Only the original Nexus model was released in Q1; the following models - the Nexus S, the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and 5, were released within Q4 of years 2010-2013. Highlight Press says the Nexus 6 will be made by Motorola, with 9to5Google believing that it will be a second-generation Moto X (2014).
The report also claims that Google will be launching the Nexus 6/X along with other products, notably the upcoming HTC Nexus 9 and the highly anticipated Android L, in a product launch event on October 16. Android L is not expected to roll out until at least a couple of weeks after its official announcement.
Nexus Discontinued?
PC Advisor notes earlier reports that the Nexus line will be discontinued and replaced with a new Android Silver line. They have quoted anonymous sources as saying the move will encourage manufacturers to improve the quality of their products, so that it will "closely adhere to Google specifications." Later reports claimed otherwise, saying an inside source "close to the project" confirmed that it will be launched this year.
If Google pushes through with the release then the device will go head to head against Apple's iPhone 6 and Samsung's Galaxy Note 4. The Nexus 6 will reportedly offer a more genuine Android experience as Google works on unifying its mobile OS to address fragmentation.
