Why Consumers Will Not and Should Not Buy Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3
Samsung brings two new phones to its Galaxy line up: the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3. Despite the new flagships, some remain unimpressed with the devices with analysts pointing out that if Samsung wants to keep up with the game, it needs to overhaul its phone line.
Samsung's latest Galaxy offerings boast of super-thin builds with all-metal finishes targeting teenagers according to Gizmodo. As noted in many reports, the two devices are optimized to offer "5MP Camera for Unmatched Selfies" and "social networking." This has not convinced analysts that the two units are any good or will sell like hotcakes.
In another report by Phonedog, Samsung's super slim phone may not be as convincing. The report explained that having a super slim built does not mean much to consumers as it did before. The slim built also meant that the company may have forgone extra battery life. Analysts point out that if consumers today are given the chance to choose between a super slim phone versus one with longer battery life, the extra battery life would walk away as a winner. People are not as particular with slim phones today rather they prefer their units to work longer to accomplish as many tasks.
Gizmodo also pointed out that despite being optimized for social media, previous attempts at this line of thought failed. Take Microsoft Kin and HTC First for example. Social media has a wide reach globally but it cannot sell a phone that is only specifically dedicated to it.
According to Tech 2, the Samsung Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A5 measure 6.7mm and 6.9mm respectively. The Galaxy A3 sports a 4.5-inch qHD Super AMOLED display offering 540 x 960 pixel resolution and 245ppi. The Galaxy A5, on other hand, comes with a 5-inch Super AMOLED display offering 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and 249ppi.
Most experts believe that for Samsung to catch up to Apple and the growing Chinese power, Xiaomi, it has to revamp its line with more focus.
