Why Elizabeth Gillies Skipped BFF Ariana Grande’s Wedding To Dalton Gomez
Elizabeth Gillies has opened up about her absence during her best friend Ariana Grande’s big day with husband Dalton Gomez.
The 27-year-old “Dynasty” star appeared on Wednesday’s episode of “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” where she was asked why she was not able to make it to Grande and Gomez’s wedding.
According to Gillies, she “would have been there” for the special moment the 28-year-old Hollywood superstar walked the aisle and exchanged wedding vows with the 25-year-old real estate agent if not for her work and the COVID-19 restrictions.
Grande and Gomez secretly tied the knot at their Los Angeles home in May. At the time, Gillies was still busy filming her show and leaving the set would entail her asking for a day off and flying seven days after she’s cleared due to the safety concerns amid the pandemic.
“I could not get off of work to go to her wedding because we would have to be cleared for like seven days to fly,” she said.
Gillies also went on to reveal that she couldn’t tell anybody that her best friend was tying a knot at the time because Grande wanted her special day to be private.
“So not only could I not tell anybody, but I also couldn’t ask for a day off and I couldn’t get the day off,” the actress explained before noting, “I would have been there.”
Gillies and Grande first met when they worked together on the Broadway musical “13” that debuted in 2008. After that, they went on to co-star on Nickelodeon’s “Victorious,” as per J-14.
Even after the show ended in 2013, Gillies and Grande remained very close as proven by their numerous social media updates featuring the two of them together.
In an interview with Teen Vogue while she was still doing “Sam & Cat,” Grande revealed that Gillies used to live with her, and they had the best time together.
“I lived with Liz for a while. She lived in my mom's house with me. It was so much fun!” she told the outlet at the time.
