RIP Megan Fox started trending on Twitter Wednesday night Eastern Time, with more people catching up to the presumed death hoax by midnight Thursday. It is not clear how Megan Fox became the first victim of fake celebrity death of the year, but fans are clearly irate by the latest news in social networks.

"RIP Megan Fox what a cruel joke," tweets user Prita Dewi Aryanti.

"What on earth happened w/ 'RIP Megan Fox' in trending topics?" asks Gladies Perdana.

Fox has not been active with movies lately. She gave birth to her first child with hubby Brian Austin Green in September, and has been off the limelight since. Noah Shannon Green, Fox's baby, is barely four months old. But cruel jokes always have a way of surfacing on Twitter and other social networks.

Twitter, not some of its weird users, is being directly blamed for what is believed to be another major death hoax.

"RIP Megan Fox??? See twitter kill more people than alexander the great!" says Purple.

"RIP Megan Fox? I don't understand the whole fake celebrity death things," tweets Breezi Miller.

The first hundred of the most recent tweets cry foul in unison, with almost everyone believing the trending topic is just another ill-conceived hoax.

"I love how almost all of the tweets are talking about how this trend is fake," chimes Tanya.

"RIP Megan Fox ?? i don't know this is just hoax or the real news??" tweets Istiqomah Ayuningsih.

Understandably, some Twitter users are confused. Some of those slamming the Fox death hoax are unwittingly keeping the trend up by simply tweeting of the trending phrase. User Dipankar sums it up with a tweet:

"RIP Megan Fox is trending now mostly because of people telling other people how naughty twitter is."

Megan Fox or her reps has yet to issue a statement on the trending topic.

UPDATE: The Megan Fox death hoax could have started from a web site publishing fake news and information. In a swellserver.com page, the headline says, "Megan Fox Dies in Crash." But its fine print states, "This story is 100% fake." The news also associates Fox to male pronouns.
