Trending Thursday on Twitter is a hashtag with perhaps the most popular mobile photo sharing app on Android and iOS devices, Instagram. The Twitterverse is flooded with #WhyIHateInstagram shout-outs, with several users saying hashtag junkies are acting as a main turn-off.

Instagram on Android and iOS smart phones allow users to apply digital filters to photos and share content quickly with their followers. Many celebrities have made it a habit to upload Instagram photos, too. Zooey Deschanel, Beyonce, Lea Michele, Jessica Alba and Ian Somerhalder, are only a few of celebs delighting fans with their photo feeds.

For many users around the world, Instagram is an obsession. You don't have to be a celebrity to have millions of followers. If users want to get attention for their photos, they follow tricks and strategies to do so. Meanwhile, other social media users simply do not see the point of it all.

Twitter user Zeo Molina says she hates Instagram because of "shoutout pictures with a long description of stupid fake accounts."

User Daisy Valencia tweeted Instagram "always acts stupid and stops refreshing."

"Every girl is lightskin and I dont know the reals from the fakes. I get fooled," tweeted Donavin.

Ashlee Rae Rose tweeted she does not like Instagram posters' themes, such as "Transformation Tuesday, Throwback Thursday, and Flashback Friday."

Instagram creators Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger launched the app in October 2010. In the beginning, it could only run on Apple devices: iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The photo sharing network had a million members by year-end, over 10 million users in less than year.

Instagram had more than 100 million users as of January 2013. Users can get the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Facebook bought the company in a billion dollar deal in April last year.
