Lately, rumors of new specs for Nintendo Wii U have been circulating in the web and it is said that these news specs would compete with Microsoft's Xbox and Sony's Playstation devices.

Nintendo has long been planning to release a new and much more powerful console that would have HD graphics. Developers who have access in the development of the console said that the Wii U would be 50% more powerful if compared to other competitors namely Xbox 360 and PS3. Nintendo is also supposedly testing two versions of the console, one with 768MB of RAM and one with 1GB. The RAM is made by IBM which is embedded in the same processor with the same die/silicon which could provide more bandwidth. The company also confirmed earlier that Wii U would have 1080p graphics and the possibility of 3D technology in this new model.

The rumors about these leaked specs were first published in Wii U Daily. According to the website, an undisclosed developer was the source of this information leak. Detailed information about these specs includes the following:

  • Quad Core, 3 GHz PowerPC-based 45nm CPU, very similar to the Xbox 360 chip.
  • 768 MB of DRAM "embedded" with the CPU, and shared between CPU and GPU
  • Unknown, 40nm ATI-based GPU

The rumored specifications regarding Nintendo's Wii U could be considered as a big improvement if compared to their current model and with their current competitors. Though that is the case, there are still people who are skeptical about the implementation of these new improvements. This article in PC Mag talked about this issue stating that having 768MB and 1GB of embedded DRAM would be hard to implement. Currently, Xbox 360 has 10MB while Wii has 3MB. If these specifications would be implemented, the future console would be much expensive and the possible size for this would not be handy at all.

Despite these skepticisms, it would be interesting to see how this new Nintendo Wii U would be accepted in the market since other gaming consoles have already implemented some of the major improvements done in Wii U.
