Will the iPhone 5 use a contour design? Rumors about the new phone circulate
Rumors are floating around that Apple's next smart phone would have a curved glass screen like the one on the iPod Nano 4G.
This latest piece of speculation comes courtesy of Taiwan's DigiTimes. The article reported that industry sources say that Apple has brought 200 or 300 glass-cutting machines for reluctant glass makers who don't want to invest in the expensive equipment.
It should come as no surprise, even to rabid iPhone fans that there is no set date for the iPhone 5s release. DigiTimes reports that Apple is still working with suppliers for the glass cover, lamination and touch sensors.
If the rumors are true then the iPhone 5 would have a "Contour Display" much like Samsung's Nexus S, the first smartphone to use said design. The curved design makes the device fit more comfortably in the palm of the hand. It may seem gimmicky but it still remains to be seen if Apple could make the design work.
Other tech sites like MacRumors have been critical about DigiTimes reports. It cites other sources that the iPhone 5 will use the same design as the iPhone 4. Apple might even release the next phone not as an iPhone 5 but as an iPhone 4S.
Meanwhile users all over the web are salivating at how the new iPhone would look. Speculation is rife and smart alecks have made suggestions to just make the phone bounce. Regardless of the veracity of the rumors, if reader response is anything to go by then Apple has a ready fan base for its iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S or whatever Apple will choose to name it.
