Finnish mobile manufacturer Nokia recently unveiled its new Windows phones Lumia 820 and Lumia 920. Will it stand a chance against Apple's 2012 flagship smartphone - iPhone 5?

Nokia introduced the new phones in the Lumia range popularly known by the codenames of "Arrow" and "Phi." The new additions are the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 smartphones powered by Windows 8.

The Lumia 920 is the star of the launch with its 4.5 inch display screen, dual-core 1.5Ghz processor, wireless charging and PureView branding, similar to the previously announced - but never released in Australia - PureView 808.

According to Nokia the Lumia 920 features a floating camera lens that is designed to provide better image stabilization for both photos and video, it can record full HD video in 1080p.

The Nokia Lumia 820, on the other hand, is equipped with a number of similar features to Nokia's Lumia 920, and includes the same unibody design and styling as the high end Lumia 920. The 820 has a detachable shell design, with a range of colors to suit the user's mood and lifestyle.

The features of the Nokia Lumia 820 include a 4.3 inch ClearBlack OLED WVGA 800 x 480 touch screen, equipped with Nokia ClearBlack technology with high brightness mode, together with Sunlight Readability Enhancements, that allows you to view your screen even in direct sunlight.

Moreover, it has 1650mAh battery that supports Qi wireless charging, and is powered by a 1.5GHz Dual Core Snapdragon S4 processor, supported by 1GB RAM and 8GB of on-board memory with a microSD card slot for expansion.

The Lumia 820 is also equipped with a 8MP Auto Focus with Carl Zeiss optics, capable of recording full high definition 1080p video at 30fps, and dual LED flash.

Because of its OS, Nokia got hold of the Windows market seeking smartphones with the latest Microsoft operating system. However, the Windows market is not even close to the shares of Google Android's and Apple iOS's.

The Lumia range of Nokia is the make or break products of the company. Moreover, the success of the products relies on the hold of Windows 8 platform in the market and whether consumers are willing to bite the new OS.

However, Apple's iPhone 5 is expected to arrive to Australia ahead Nokia's new Lumia range giving it more time to impress Aussie consumers.
