Windows 10 Mobile Redstone updates to bring newer features
Microsoft is rumoured to be working on a next major update called Redstone for Windows 10 for desktops and Windows 10 Mobile devices. The Windows 10 Mobile Redstone update is expected to bring several new features and performance improvements.
According to Nokia Power User, the Windows 10 Mobile Redstone update will be rolled out in two phases: Redstone 1 (RS1) and Redstone 2 (RS2). The RS1 update is expected to release by May or June whereas the RS2 update may be available by November or December.
The RS1 update is likely to bring along major enhancements to user experience and bring many new features. However, the RS2 update will be released to refine the usability features.
Rumours are circulating that the purported Build 1088 that is expected to hit Windows 10 Mobile devices is a Redstone update. It was reported recently that Microsoft is aiming to release more Redstone test builds starting this month. Users who have registered with the Windows Insider program may see the following new features with the release of upcoming Redstone builds:
Homescreen in Landscape Mode
Since the Redmond giant is speculated to be working on it for quite some time, this feature may arrive in the first Redstone build.
Upgraded Action Center
The Action Center is expected to undergo overhaul improvements to allow users to control the Music Player and view the status of downloaded content. Moreover, users will be able to personalize it with theme colors.
Improved apps user experience across Windows 10 devices
The Redmond giant is aiming to improve user experience on devices connected with the same Microsoft account. For instance, a user will be able to launch an app on a desktop or smartphone and then continue working on the same app on another device from where he left off in the first device.
Do more with Cortana
Cortana will not only allow users to send SMS but also make phone calls through a PC that is connected to Windows 10 Mobile.
More customization options
Users will be provided with multiple tile sizes and even the lockscreen experience is expected to undergo improvements.
Overhaul improvements to native apps
The Windows 10 Mobile native apps like OneDrive, Groove Music, File Explorer and others are expected to undergo major improvements and arrive with newer features. For instance, the Photos app is expected to get features like auto-album creation and auto-enhancements.
