Launched back in July, Microsoft’s newest operating system is reaching new heights as far as device installation is concerned. According to recent reports, within five months of release, Windows 10 is now installed in over 200 million devices across the globe.

As a free upgrade for users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, this figure does not seem to be very surprising. According to Winbeta, the OS has been installed on an average of 40 million devices each month. However, the new milestone is not officially confirmed by Microsoft. Moreover, it is not clear if the figures of the Windows 10 installations include devices like the Xbox One.

Soon after its launch on July 29, Microsoft announced that the OS is running on 75 million devices in 192 countries. In early October, Microsoft officially announced that more than 110 million devices were running their latest operating system.

Microsoft aims to see Windows 10 running on one billion devices in three years from its launch. At this point, the company is still far away from its goal. According to Microsoft News, with subsequent updates and bug fixes, the operating system will definitely get more users in the coming year.

During the launch, Microsoft committed to update the OS in regular intervals. The company is expected to roll out two new major updates for Windows 10 in 2016. Reports suggest that the upcoming update will make Cortana more powerful than ever.

The update will allow Cortana to appear on top of all documents and give users quick access to useful and contextual information. Users may even see Microsoft’s digital assistant in Office 365, which will be very helpful for all businesses. Microsoft will continue to offer Windows 10 as a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.1 users until July 2016.
