Windows 8.1 Update Issues [How to Fix]
Updates usually come with minor hiccups and little issues that cause users minor problems. Windows 8.1 free update for desktops, tablets and notebooks is not different. The newest operating system of Microsoft has its fair share of problems.
Since the release of Windows 8.1, users have been reporting random issues with not being able to download the update.
Here is a step-by-step guide to install the Windows 8.1 update:
Before you proceed with the steps, it is best to simply close the Windows Store App by clicking or tapping on its top > drag to the bottom of the screen > try the update again. This step can proceed to the rest of the steps but if it doesn't work, continue with the other steps.
1 - Look for the error above your screen. If it prompts to restart your Window 8 device, do so and try again. Do not forget to save all the work that you are doing in the background before you proceed to restart your device. After restarting your device, do not open the Windows Store app.
At this point, if the problem still persists, you need to open the Windows 8 Command Prompt.
1 - Go to Start Screen by pressing Windows key or press Windows button underneath the devices display.
2 - Right click anywhere on the Start Screen > click on All Apps > right click on Command Prompt (do not left click) > Run as Administrator.
For tablet users place finger on Command Prompt > pull down on the App > App Menu.
3 - Type 'net stop wuauserv' > Click Enter. Then type 'net stop bits' > Click Enter.
4 - Go to Windows Store and try to download Windows 8.1 again.
