With an official release just over three weeks away, the folks at CD Projekt Red have begun banging the drum about “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” one of the most ambitious and technically accomplished RPG’s ever made. Finally, fans get a flurry of new screenshots, while a final video see’s the dev discuss combat, DLC and more.
First off is the a brief, but stunningly beautiful thirty-second CG TV spot for the game. Found on the official “Witcher” YouTube channel, the ad sees Geralt, as a professional monster-hunter, step in to save a fleeing woman from the clutches of a giant Wyvern. Using his Ignis sign, the Witcher drives the beast back, before downing it with his crossbow and moving in for the kill.
Next is an informative behind-the-scenes video, hosted on the official Nvidia YouTube channel. The video shows off CD Projekt Red’s use of a number proprietary Nvidia technologies, including GameWorks, HairWorks, HBAO+, as well as PhysX-based Destruction and Clothing. The proprietary tech allows the game to come to life to a greater degree than on competing platforms, with HairWorks enabling the developer to add realistic movement and behavior to Geralt’s locks, and PhysX processing adding dynamism and realism to environmental destruction and cloth behavior.
Finally, on the Xbox U.K. YouTube channel, Senior Game Designer Damien Monnier says that some time has passed after the events of “The Witcher 2,” during which Geralt roamed the wilderness, concentrating on honing his skills, as such, he’s learned new abilities. He goes on to add that even the tiniest of conversations can potentially have a huge impact on how the world unfolds. Discussing combat, Monnier stated that the studio has worked hard to ensure that both magic and physical attacks are viable, noting that players will need to be wary of the weird effects of toxicity should they decide to delve deep into potions and oils.
Monnier also expressed his pleasure at the studio’s announcement of the highly publicized 16 pieces of free DLC buyers will have access to. He reiterates that once the game is finished, the studio will begin work on the DLC, adding that they had some awesome plans. As previously reported, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” has recently gone gold, meaning the disc has been shipped off for manufacturing and distribution. The game will be released on May 19, on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
