Woman Charged With Murder Of 5 Months Old Girl, Appears In Court
A 37-year-old woman charged with the murder of a 5-months-old girl in the city of Geraldton, has been remanded in custody after facing a West Australian Court, the ABC news reported. The woman, named Tamara Louise Thompson is due to appear in court again for a second time on Tuesday.
While investigating the disappearance of a child, investigators came across evidence that point toward the 37-year-old woman, reportedly guilty of murdering the child. She has been arrested and produced in court on Tuesday. Investigators further revealed that the woman was somehow related to the slain child but they are not sure whether she is the child’s mother.
The ABC news reported that the court was told a psychiatric nurse had determined the 37-year-old did not require a hospital order, and would remain in custody in Greenough Prison until the matter returns to court next week. Ms. Thompson appeared before court barefoot and was not required to enter a plea. She seemed distressed during the initial court proceedings which made her lawyer request a psychiatric assessment for her.
Forensic officers are still investigating the woman’s house in Waggrakine located in the northern Geraldton suburb, in a bid to find more clue on the incident. The property was kept guarded from trespassers, to allow the forensic officers to carry on with their investigations and examine the area, for more leads. The place was being monitored by the detectives since last Saturday.
After the child went missing for weeks it raised alarms among the neighbours and the local police started looking for the baby girl but was unable to find a trace of her. After information was received by WA police on Tuesday afternoon and they conducted a welfare check last Saturday at the Waggrakine home. Police believes that the remains that were found on Monday, at the house, are believed to be of the child.
