Barely a year from the Mayan Calendar end-of-the world prediction, another round of Doomsday prophecies loom as American evangelist Billy Graham joins other prophets of doom in predicting an Apocalypse soon.

Mr Graham told WND that the theme of his My Hope America evangelistic outreach in early November is the world is "coming toward the end of the age."

The preacher said he is making the end days warning out of a burden for "sounding the alarm for humanity to repent and turn from their sin ... just as Noah did in ancient days."

"God keeps his promises, and this is why we can be sure that the return of Christ is near ... Scripture tells us that there will be signs pointing toward the return of the Lord. I believe all these signs are evident today," he added.

He said in his new book, The Reason for My Hope, that the great hope of the Christian faith is on the promised return of Christ.

"There's a great deal to say in the Bible about the signs we're to watch for and when these signs all converge at one place we can be sure that we're close to the end of the age. And those signs, in my judgment, are converging now for the first time since Jesus made those predictions," the 94-year-old evangelist wrote.

Mr Graham will deliver this pre-recorded message on the week of Nov 7 when he turns 95. It could be viewed online and on YouTube, while The Cross, the main programme in Mr Graham's My Hope series, will be broadcast on Fox News channel, TBN, Christian networks and local TV stations in a number of U.S. cities.

Other evangelists who have given similar end-of-the world messages include Franklin Graham, Billy's son, Reinhard Bonnke, Greg Laurie, Luis Palau and Banning Liebscher.

Among the indicators of the end-times, according to Mr Graham, are the Sept 11. 2001 event, terrorist attacks, Hurricane Katrina, the global recession and wraths of nature such as super earthquakes, mega tsunamis and large storms and tornadoes.

Another Doomsday prophet, author Paul McGuire, believes this is an era on the verge of a global awakening in apocalyptic events. He forecast another global economic meltdown. Mr McGuire has authored 22 prophecy books and will soon release another one, A Prophecy of the Future of America.

Besides more earthquake warnings, he cited a potential volcanic eruption of Yellowstone, contamination of oceans caused by the Fukushima nuclear disaster, a massive West Coast tsunami, increased solar flare activity and worsening climate change as precursors of the end of the world.

It is not only religious leaders who are warning of the impending Doomsday. In the earlier part of October, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the United Nations General Assembly that "biblical prophecies are being realized."

Rep Michele Bachmann also claimed last week the world was moving toward the last days, saying, "When you see up is down and right is wrong, when this is happening, we were told this: that these days would be as the days of Noah."

These warnings have not fallen on deaf ears since a survey by the Bama Group in September found that 40 per cent of Americans and 77 per cent of evangelical Christians believe the world is currently living in the biblical end times.
