Mahalia Simpson is the latest “X-Factor Australia” season 7 contender that was ousted from the show. However, she revealed in an interview that her journey in the competition has help her regain her love for music. Meanwhile, judge Dannii Minogue is left with no team members gunning for the top spot in “X-Factor Australia” this year.

In a candid interview with Daily Telegraph’s Sydney Confidential, Simpson admitted that prior to joining “X-Factor Australia” season 7, she lost her love for music. She also revealed that she felt frustrated with her song writing progress and that she wasn’t happy with the output.

“To be honest, I kind of lost my love for music a bit because I was putting so much pressure on myself to write,” she told Daily Telegraph. “I was like, ‘You’ve got to write good songs,’ and it just wasn’t happening and I just wasn’t satisfied with anything I was writing.”

The 23 year old aspiring singer also shared that her music inspiration is India Arie and is hoping she’ll be as good as a song writer like her idol. “She speaks with so much wisdom and all of that,” Simpson gushed. sc“But I think I needed to go through something myself.”

Despite having been at the bottom two list for several times in the competition, Simpson still found a positive benefit from the experience. In an interview with Pop Sugar prior her elimination, Simpson admitted she was torn between two different emotions.

“One is, ‘Oh snap, I feel defeated’ — it’s a little bit discouraging when you’re in the bottom two because you’re like, ‘Maybe I’m not that good.’ But even though I’ve made it this far, insecurities and doubts come,” she explained. “But then on the other side, I guess it’s another opportunity for me to sing stuff that’s who I think I am as an artist…”

With Simpson being voted off “X-Factor Australia” season 7 after a singing showdown with Big T, judge Minogue is the first to be knocked out the competition. Judges Guy Sebastian and James Blunt each have one contender left in the reality singing competition, with the duo Jess & Matt and Louise Adams, respectively. Meanwhile, judge Chris Isaak’s two boys, Big T and fan favourite Cyrus Villanueva both landed a spot in “X-Factor Australia” season 7’s semi-finals round.

The eight live show of the “X-Factor Australia” season 7 airs on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
