It seems that Microsoft's effort will go down the drain as it may face its doom with its battle against the PlayStation 4.

In the recent release of Microsoft's Xbox One, the software giant highlighted the home entertainment features of the console, which garnered mixed reactions. More game console consumers prefer game-focused device. Thus, the new features disappointed some buyers.

Avalanche Studios founder and chief creative officer Christofer Sundberg believes the largely negative reaction to Microsoft's Xbox One reveal last week relates to the lack of focus on actual games rather than in the console itself.

"I understand the disappointment of many fans," said Sundberg in an interview with VideoGamer. "But I am confident their disappointment is in the lack of focus on games during the reveal, rather than in the console. I hope that Microsoft will turn that around during E3."

Sundberg feels that without spotlighting the Xbox One's cross-media entertainment capabilities during the event Microsoft would have "quickly lost the attention from mainstream media."

Sundberg also confirmed that the Avalanche team has been "working with the Xbox One for quite some time."

Microsoft has been weathering severe criticism from gamers since the Xbox One reveal. A focus on the Xbox One's TV functionality over games, plus frustration around Microsoft's still-unclear policies on used-software support and the online requirements of the console, has put the Xbox One under intense scrutiny heading into E3.

Software giant Microsoft unveiled the latest version of its gaming console, Xbox One, the other day eight years after the release of Xbox 360.

After eight years since the launch of Xbox 360, Microsoft revealed specs and features for the Xbox One the other day at an event in Redmond, Wash.

The new gaming system, which it plans to release before the end of the year, is chock full of new features that go way beyond new hardware, including Skype connectivity, television integration and new ways of controlling the system with your voice and body.

However, Microsoft will face stiff competition with the release of Playstation 4. Sony's upcoming next generation console is scheduled for release the holiday season of 2013.
