Xbox One to Get a Design Change; Doubled Sales Still Not Beating the PS4

Microsoft has recently announced the Xbox One August System Update, which introduces a number of new features, including the awaited 3-D Blu-ray support.

But the Xbox One August system update may not be all there is to it, as new information hints at the possibility of a design change for the boot screen on the Xbox One.

Videogamer has spotted an image from a Xbox ambassador over at the sub-reddit for Xbox One, where the boot screen has added three dots, presumably as a loading icon to see the progress of the Xbox One.

Lower Price, Doubled Sales, But Still Not Enough?

Since their release last November, the PS4 has been in the lead in sales, beating the Xbox One as much as double of the sales every month.

What's more, the Xbox One has already dropped down the price considerably after de-bundling the Kinect from the Xbox One. In fact, Microsoft has announced over the Xbox Wire that it has seen a "strong spike in interest in our Xbox One console options" particularly pointing to the $399 offer and Xbox One games.

As far as numbers go, Microsoft has put the increase up to double the sales in the U.S. compared to what was being sold in May. There was even a mention of growth seen for the number of sales related to the Xbox 360.

However, even with the new changes effective for the Xbox One, the PS4 apparently still has the advantage in terms of sales of the console.

"The move from Xbox was definitely in order to compete on a more level pegging with Sony and that has definitely resulted in a response from the consumer as well," said John Lewis, head of buying for Electronics and Home Technology, in an interview with Trusted Reviews.

"The demand for Sony is still greater than what we are seeing for Xbox One right now."

According to the report, one potential reason for this is that the PS4 may have started out with a pretty large gap to begin with in the console race for more sales. This gap may be already big to begin with, that not even a price cut and a reported doubling of sales could completely close the gap.
