Within 24 hours, more than a million Xbox One consoles were sold in 13 different countries after its recent release. According to Microsoft, it is the biggest launch in Xbox history breaking sales records of the company. In fact, the game console is almost sold out at most retail shops after it hit the shelves for the first time.

The corporate vice president of marketing of the Xbox, Yusuf Mehdi said, "We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world." "Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team."

The overwhelming response of the Xbox fans all over the globe is truly undeniable, as such here are the top 10 things that you need to know to maximise your new gaming machine.

1. Availability and price

The Xbox One is already available in the U.S., the UK, Spain, New Zealand, Mexico, Italy, Ireland, Germany, France, Canada, Brazil, Austria and Australia. It is available at $499 in North America, £429 in the UK, AU$599 in Australia, and € 499 in the EU countries aforementioned.

2. To be able to do anything beyond play single-player games, you need an Xbox Live Gold membership

The Xbox Live Gold which costs $60/year (in the U.S.) is pretty much a requirement for online gamers even before. Online services require Xbox Live Gold, from game DVR functionality to Netflix streaming.

3. It plays DVDs, Blu-rays and CDs

The older version of Xbox only had DVD support and via a peripheral, HD-DVDs. Blu-ray is a significant addition, although it is not compatible with 3D Blu-rays. The PS4 is not compatible with the 3D Blu-ray and CDs as well.

4. It supports limited DLNA

Microsoft is pushing its own cloud-storage service, the SkyDrive, to play back stored videos and photos. The "Play To" DLNA-supported devices could work.

5. Unlike the PS4, its hard drive is not user replaceable

Unlike the PS4 which can be upgraded through a laptop hard drive, the Xbox One comes with a fixed 500GB hard drive. As of the moment, there are no plans on having an upgrade of storage, although the Xbox 360 had a proprietary snap-on hard drive.

6. It will not be able to play discs or digitals from the old Xbox 360, original Xbox or the Xbox Live Arcade

The Xbox One will not play old discs and will not transfer downloaded Xbox games on your Xbox Live account. Whether or not you like it, it is a brand new start with the Xbox One although the account details and user settings are carried over and retained.

7. Downloaded games can be re-downloaded but disc games require the actual disc to play

Disc and disc-free games both need installation on the Xbox One. However, if you prefer to use the disc route, you still need to insert a disc to start the game.

8. No Bluetooth support

Device-to-device connections are feasible with the Wi-Fi Direct and 802.11n Wi-Fi but the Xbox options are required for the wireless accessories.

9. The Kinect can be utilised as an IR blaster

The Kinect can be programmed to operate your TV, cable box and any universal remote purposes.

10. Works with universal remote controls

The Xbox One can be controlled with a compatible universal remote.
